SPURWINGED PLOVER Vanellus miles
I think this is a pretty good example of the spurs on a spurwinged plover.
the spurs are usually hidden until use is required but this highlights them due to the wing position. Very noisy - unusually sometimes flying at night.
NZ Native - straggled over from Australia since 1886. breeding since 1940
(fiat - common birds in NZ ).
