Brixham

This morning after breakfast we visited Brixham, a nearby charming fishing village - in the middle ages it was the largest fishing port in the south west of England and today still has one of the largest fishing fleets in the country. It was also here that the sailing trawler was developed in the 18th century which revolutionised the fishing industry. It was fun crossing the River Dart on the ferry to get to and from Brixham, something a bit different for us.

I took so many photos, I do find boats a good photography subject, so I chose this image to be my main blip instead of the classic view of Brixham - as seen in the extras with the colourful houses competing for space on the hillside above the harbour. Tommy arrived today and he came directly to Brixham instead of first going to the barn. We had a quick fish lunch and then went back to the barn as both Gavin and Pip had work zoom calls.

In the late afternoon when it was a bit cooler we went to a nearby cove in Dartmouth for the young adults to swim - Castle cove is a tiny cove with not much beach space but you can swim out to the rocks. Xena got quite anxious when they swam off and as she is not confident in water she was left behind, but I think with a bit of encouragement she would have followed them. When they swam around the corner she got a bit desperate to lose sight of them. I have added an extra of them getting in the water, and yes Adam is wearing his university budgie smugglers (as a joke) and also because normal swimming trunks are too tight on his big thighs. After the swim we all had ice creams/sorbets at the castle cafe, and Tommy also had a cream tea as he had missed out on the scones that we had earlier in the holiday.

Supper at home tonight, it's so easy to cook in this well appointed kitchen.

We have been so lucky to have such fantastic weather here this week, today was another hot day with wall to wall blue skies.
