Amandine's Plot Treize

Beans

2021 hasn't been a good year for beans to say the least.

Some crops are the ultimate challenge for organic gardeners and beans are undoubtedly one of them.

My early greenhouse sowings looked great when I planted them out but were destroyed by a cold snap.

The second and third sowings (sowed directly in the ground) were decimated by snails and slugs in wet May and June.

The fourth and fifth sowings met the same fate, and the deers got some too.

The sixth sowing (in pots then planted out) fared a bit better but the climbing structure I spent 2 lockdowns building is still looking quite bare.

Out of nearly 100 beans sowed, I have about 30 left. This is one of the first to flower, very exciting!
