Curious
Another site visited before but it pays to check on current states as some have suffered over the few years I've been doing this and others have flourished. This was originally visited in 2017 and although the castle looks much the same and there is even a path to it, the well has almost been submerged under nettles and bracken - under the huge tree to the right of the picture. The well is dedicated to St Branit, sister of St Cranat, she of the eye plucking (catch up!) Castle Curious (currently for sale for 95,000 euros) was built by a local eccentric named Johnny Roche - he literally built it himself and it took three years. He was a man of many talents: dentist, miller, blacksmith, tailor and fiddle maker. Entirely self-sufficient. He even prepared his own epitaph:
Here lies the body of poor John Roche,
he had his faults but don’t reproach;
For when alive his hearth was mellow,
An artist, genius and comic fellow.
I think I would have liked him.
