Snacking on the Covid Tree
.....it is actually a Button Bush.
It attempted unsuccessfully multiple times to get one into its unwieldy bill, but eventually went back to fishing. Their fishing behavior looks like minesweeping.
To everyone's amazement, two more Spoonbills showed up this week and many people were posting shots of all three. This morning, there were only two, the third may have been in one of the back waterways that couldn't be seen from the boardwalk.
I was up before dawn and arrived at Huntley Meadows at 6:30 and there were already many photographers there ahead of me. Fortunately, when I arrived, two of the spoonbills were in the near pond and one was quite close allowing me to get a portrait. See extras
There wasn't a bit of air moving, the humidity was high and it was already over 80 by 8 am, so having taken 1000 shots and being completely wrung out, I headed home.
This was my favorite of the day. Such amazing creatures.
