Jodrell Bank

The world famous Radio Telescope.

Built and owned by the University of Manchester and first switched on in 1957.  Being something that had never been built before its costs 
were underestimated and it was getting the University into difficulties.
But it was saved by the fact that soon after iit opened the Russians sent up Sputnik and this telescope was the only one in the world which could 
track it.
The Government soon came up with the money to solve the financial problem.

Today it was the scene of a happy reunion with our family. We had notbeen able to meet them for 18 months so it was a great joy. And this 
evening they have treated us to a lovely dinner.

The sky has been blue and it has been a grand day.
