Loup Scar
I spent a quiet afternoon in Wharfedale today, walking from Hebden (near Grassington) downstream to Burnsall and back, about two miles round trip. At Loup Scar, the river runs through a limestone gorge, a favourite swimming and picnic spot.
On my way home I finished off my sandwiches at Linton, with its village green, pub, lovely little beck and this almshouse (extra photo), designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, whose CV includes Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard.
Oddly, this building always reminds me of Hiroshima, the one structure not completely flattened by the Bomb - a sombre thought for a sunny day in Yorkshire.
