Continental Divide Trail
This is Tuesday's blip, backblipped on Thursday.
We went into Granby today (Tuesday) to look around and found some great street art. Our campground is located between Granby and Grand Lake, two very different towns. Granby is a normal small town with a few stores and restaurants and Grand Lake is a tourist town at the east entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park.
The two young men in the middle were hitch hiking at the corner as we turned back toward our campground. It was windy and raining a little and the best we could do was offer them a ride in the back of the truck. Piper takes up the whole back seat. They were happy to jump in, though, and said they were headed to Grand Lake. We said we were only going about halfway but when we got to our turn, we stopped and told them we would take them the rest of the way. I felt so sorry for them huddled in the back in the bad weather at 60 mph but they were happy to get to their destination. They told us they were thru hiking the Continental Divide Trail and were camping (resting and resupplying) in Grand Lake for a few days. They had started their trek at the Mexican border on April 4th and were hoping to get to the Canadian border by September. We were thrilled to play a small part in their journey. After we dropped them off and they disappeared down the road, we kicked ourselves for not offering to buy them a meal. Now that we know that Grand Lake is a stop along the route, we'll look for other hikers and buy them that meal! Here is a link about the route if you're interested.
I am grateful for our adventure today. :-)
Thanks to everyone for your visits and stars and hearts on my blips! Sorry I haven't been looking in on your journals. I'll make up for it when we get home. xx
