Autumn in July
The horrible heat dome that caused unprecedented high temperatures recently (and fires in British Columbia) has caused many trees to drop their leaves--a kind of premature "fall" long before autumn. Heat stress did it to them. Sue and I went walking in Lone Fir Cemetery Sunday, and the leaves underfoot were a sad surprise to us on Sunday afternoon.
Sue just finished reading Finding the Mother Tree, which I quoted a few weeks back, and she's going to read it again, it gave her such satisfaction. Sue has always been a tree lover. The rhododendrons are brown on the top, many small trees have died, and all our trees have burnt sections with shriveled leaves.
