Visiting the Viking King

We had a slow morning until Helle wrote at 10 AM and asked if we wanted to do something fun with the dogs, when she finished work at 2 PM.

Yes we did, so I took the boys for a training session each and went shopping for a picnic tea and then it was time to leave for an afternoon in Land Of Legends*. 

My picture is from the King's Hall. It is a reconstruction of a Viking King's house, which was found very close to where it has now been reconstructed. 

It is an amazing building and it is hard to imagine how something that spectacular was built without machines and more advanced tools back in the period from 800 until 1050 AD.

When Land Of Legends closed, Helle and I found a nice spot in the shade and enjoyed a picnic dinner.

*) Sagnlandet Lejre (Land Of Legends) or as it is also called Centre for Historical-Archaelogical Research and Communication was etablished in 1964 as an archaeological research station in a unique moraine lere. andscape with woodland, lakes, bogs and fields near Roskilde. It is a center, where professionals from within cultural-historical disciplines can do their research,but also an open air museum, where people of all ages can experience our ancestors’ daily life from the ice age and up till the viking age. It is a great place to visit.
