Mist and Murk

Sunrise now in Edinburgh is 45 minutes later than it was at midsummer in Stromness and the difference is quite noticeable, especially when it seems each day here starts misty and murky. It certainly makes getting up early, less appealing and a self imposed chore.

With my non ability to chew because of my sore mandibular joint, breakfast was milky as was the Cappuccino at the newly opened Victor Hugo café on George Street when I sussed it out on my shopping safari.

The city was veiled in a cloying mist that made everything feel damp and muggy and not a little dispiriting. After lunch it was burned off by the emergent sun so that sitting outside with the crossword and my book provided light relief from anything domestic.

I fear supper will be eggy , perhaps omelettey which will slip over nicely- the red cabbage of yesterday will remain in the fridge until I can chew again.
I have reneged on the glass of red wine at 4pm after hearing that a glass is equivalent to a doughnut in calories. Shock, horror!
