Bear

One of the bears currently adorning the town as part of a public art project.

Why bears, I wonder? It's been a long time since bears lived in the Santa Cruz mountains - most recently, in 1978, a black bear mother and cub were caught west of Los Gatos, and returned to the Santa Lucia mountains where they were supposed to have come from, fleeing a major fire. The last grizzly in the Santa Cruz mountains was shot in 1880.
