Figaro (Saturday 10th July 2021)

The Indian family who live on the other side of the drive were exiled from Kenya back in the seventies. Their daughter Savneet ('Doll') is now a doctor who drives this rather enviable convertible soft-top Nissan Figaro (Wikipedia). I believe the chassis is modelled on the Nissan Micra of the time, which was probably my favourite to drive of all the cars I've previously owned.

By opening the boot, the roof of the car can be retracted and the boot closed over it, leaving an open top, as I saw happen on Friday.

I assumed it was much older than it is because of its retro stylings, but the Figaro wasn't manufactured until 1991 at Nissan's Pike factory in Japan, and some 20,000 were made. If this is its original colour, it is one of only 8,000.

Byron Berline was associated with a number of bands including the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers and Dillard And Clark as a bluegrass fiddle and mandolin player, and was known to me particularly as someone who guested with Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, both together and later with Emmylou's Hot Band. This is a remix of a song from the album Grievous Angel.
