The Long Walk
This made me smile that I can go from Albert St, to Franklyn’s Yard, to Bull St in 4 whole steps! A nice catch up with two of my sisters this morning. Obviously the Wimbledon ladies final dominated this afternoon and I was pleased to see Ash Barty win after a very nervy final. I have been fortunate enough to go to a few ladies finals at Wimbledon and after a big build up the tension in the air is palpable.
Day 481 / Day 55 of Step 3 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
2,872 people with Covid were admitted to hospital in w/e 5/7, up 55.9% on the previous week. The ONS reports 153,000 deaths in the UK with Covid on the death certificate. Looking back on blip a year, I wrote ‘PM seen wearing a face mask for the first time and says that the Govt needs to be stricter on insisting people wear masks in confined spaces such as shops.’ The fact it wasn’t mandatory for so long, to me explains why the Govt thought it could easily revert to it being optional - a big mistake as it seems to be delivering a message that they’re no longer needed. NHS Providers says that a number of NHS Trusts have said that self-isolating staff are ‘significantly impacting their ability to deliver care.’ A Professor at the London School of Hygiene has told SKY news that the term ‘Freedom Day’ is misleading. The Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges says the NHS is under ‘unprecedented pressure’, that she is ‘profoundly concerned’ about the lifting of restrictions, and that there is a misconception that we can ‘throw away all precautions, and frankly, that would be dangerous’.
