Reveille!

I was woken early this morning by a cacophony of chirping house sparrows. They weren't there yesterday so maybe they're fledglings revelling in their new-found freedom? This male sparrow seemed to be keeping a close eye on them so I can only assume he's the daddy... and mummy's having a rest!

I had to google them as I wasn't sure exactly what species they were and I was astounded to find that although house sparrows are classed as being of 'least concern' worldwide on the IUCN Red List, in the UK they are considered endangered. Who knew?
