An Aberration Encountered
My main blip is of a perfectly normal meadow brown butterfly but my extra, taken at the same location, is so abnormal that I first mis-identified it as a ringlet. An expert however, informs me that it is definitely an aberrant form of meadow brown (Maniola jurtina).
Just as you can get albino, leucistic, melanic forms of mammals and birds; butterflies (and moths) show these mutations and more.
