Salcombe and the Kingsbridge Estuary

Janet and I took a trip down to South Devon today, to take in the delights of Overbeck Garden, a National Trust garden we had heretofore neglected. Quite a journey for a day trip - 250 miles - but in the Audi, which made it almost tolerable.

Overbecks was delightful, particularly for me the views over the estuary, although I gather the mediterranean and subtropical plantings were delightful too (see extra). I'm beginning to think, in the future we may have to adapt, and to adopt these warmer climate gardens.

Salcombe is, like most pretty south coastal villages, swamped by holiday lets and tourists. The loveliest houses of course were far beyond our reach, and again there are lessons here. We have a splendid house and garden, and my urge to relocate is often quietened by trips out.
