‘A Titbit for a Newborn Coot’

The second coots’ nest, being built on Inverleith Pond at the beginning of last month https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2846838699784670163 now sports a coot chick! 

It’s a precarious business trying to raise a family on the pond; the other pair of coots, with the original nest at the other end of the pond, have now had two attempts so far this summer and, on each occasion, the chicks have survived only a few days. They are currently - optimistically as ever - incubating for a third time…
