Old and New
This conservation project highlights the difference in tone of the original sandstone colour and the smoke stained legacy.
The building is a category A listed Georgian tenament. Windsor Street is particularly significant as it is one of the few completed parts of a masterplan drawn up by William Playfair in 1822. His grand scheme would have seen a major extension to the New Town built to the north of Calton Hill, but an economic crisis meant that funds for the project dried up and his plan was never fully realised.
