It's that way!

I haven't done anything particularly interesting today, so here's a guest blip from S, who was out with his walking group climbing El Puntxo (2580 m). As you can see they had amazing weather, in fact it was a bit too  hot on the way down and he was knackered when he got home. Especially given his sherpa-ing with 18 kg of camera kit yesterday.

I had my usual leisurely swim in the morning and this afternoon my final French book group of the year. We had read Jean-Claude Grumberg's La Plus Précieuse des Marchandises. It's a tale in the style of the Brothers Grimm, about the Holocaust: a woodcutter and his wife living in a forest pick up a child thrown from a cattle truck by a Jewish deportee. It sounds as if it shouldn't work but it does, cleaving exactly to fairy tale tropes while allowing the reader to understand it on multiple levels. Very short, crisp epigrammatic prose, a nice change from recent books with this group. We celebrated the year end with cake and blanquette.
