The Race…
I can lose days watching the birds at this time of year.
There is just so much happening. Everywhere I look.
The Red Kites circling overhead. Swooping down into the field when they spot something to eat.
The rampaging pack of Sparrows, dashing about. A cacophony of noise as they bathe together, eat together and seemingly take ownership of all the space near the feeders.
I call them The Hooligans, they just descend en-masse and take over the area completely in a cacophony of noise.
The Starlings are coming to bathe also, the colours sparkling in the sunshine.
There’s a sole Robin. Who, through the winter was the guardian of the feeders. Now, seemingly, having to take a back seat.
Like the parent who’s just given up and let the kids run riot.
Baby Blue Tits peck at the feeders when the Sparrows have been distracted elsewhere.
The Woodpecker flies in occasionally but is easily startled.
And , every so often, a red Squirrel. Ignoring everything else and performing acrobatics to get at the nuts in the feeders.
I began by saying I could easily lose days. But these days aren’t lost, they are an utter joy to see.
