Saturday: Gifts From Kushiro

We had an excellent full day with P&J, starting with breakfast on the terrace.  We then went for a nice long walk through the SFU campus, which included passing these lovely totems, a gift from Burnaby’s sister city of Kushiro in Japan.  They are indigenous carvings from the Ainu people, who live on the island of Hokkaido - and interestingly their symbols are very similar to those of indigenous peoples here.

Early afternoon, we drove to Port Moody where we enjoyed a couple of flights, one in ‘Parkside Brewery’ and one in ‘Yellow Dog’ (where we also had a spot of lunch).  The weather was fantastic, almost a little too hot.  And what was particularly interesting in ‘Yellow Dog’ is that the servers have now abandoned their masks and we joined a table with………other people!  British Columbia moved to stage 3 a few days ago which has come with further lifting of restrictions.

A bit of a rest in the afternoon, followed by burgers and a movie.
