London Docks walk
Woke up to sporadic showers, but none of the forecast thunderstorms. Helen and I had promised ourselves a walk somewhere - initially in Kent, but we then decided to do a city walk instead ... once the rain eventually stopped.
Just after 3, we got the train up to London Bridge, crossed over Tower Bridge and walked through St Katharine Dock. Then, instead of following the Thames path, we followed some older waterways that once formed part of the London Docks (Wikipedia article), much of which have since been filled in for homes and offices, but enough water remains to support swans, geese, ducks, coots and moorhens (lots of chicks cheeping among the vegetation).
Starting from Hermitage Basin we followed Spirit Quay (a shallow ornamental canal) through Wapping, past Tobacco Dock and into Shadwell Basin (nice food court and farmers' market). We then followed the riverside path down to Canary Wharf, lit by occasional sunshine where earlier it had all been grey clouds. At Canary Wharf, Helen decided to have a look at the shops, while I headed for home via Millwall Dock, the Greenwich Tunnel, and a couple of pints in the River Ale House. Totalled some 16,000 steps (my third consecutive 10k+ total).
Watched England coast to an easy 4-0 victory over Ukraine in the Euros.
