The Plantations Bridge
In the middle of the Haigh Plantations outside Wigan used to run the Whelley Loop Line carrying steam trains loaded with goods that could avoid the town centre stations.
The bridge, made of cast iron and stone pillars, has been a feature of the long path up to Haigh Hall since the 1870's, and is now a pedestrian path joining walks all around the area.
I visited very early this morning before the rains came, but the light drizzle made for soft light and painterly colours!
