A Day In The Life

Fledglingville

Have you never been to a place called Fledglingville? Oh, do climb aboard and let me tell you all about it! • It’s a rainy and cool place where all things flora glisten and glow. The trees are filled with delightful birdsong. Even the birdbaths overflow from an abundance of water. Woodchucks graze in the wet growing grass; their hides soaking up wondrous droplets falling from the sky. Even wet squirrels and chipmunks frolic and play together as they compete for generous gifts of nuts and seeds. Fledglings of all kinds live in this place, and they’ll grow up here too. Young bluejays, chickadees and fuzzy downy woodpeckers; rose-breasted nuthatches tiny as hummingbirds. White-breasted nuthatches stare at filled feeders and wait. Like those before them they will learn confidence. Life experience will help them survive until it’s their turn to find mates and start their own families. They, too, will bring their fledglings to this place, this place where they grew up, where all are welcome. It’s a place called Fledglingville • The End :)
