1964: President Lyndon Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Quote Of The Day
"Let us close the springs of racial poison. Let us pray for wise and understanding hearts. Let us lay aside irrelevant differences and make our nation whole."
(Lyndon Baines Johnson)
As we approach Tanabata Day on 7th July, things are not looking hopeful for the two celestial lovers, Ohrihime (Weaving Princess) and Hikoboshi (cow herder.) Separated by Ohrihime's father, Tentei (Sky God), who put the Amanogawa (Milky Way) between them, they can only meet one day in a year, 7th July, and then only if it does not rain. If it rains, the birds who build a bridge across the Amanogawa will not be able to come.
