It was a glorious summer day for a walk through Aberlady Nature Reserve with a picnic overlooking the vast beach under an almost totally blue sky. On the way I had counted 52 wild flowers including four different orchids and five varieties of butterflies including this Dark green fritillary on some ragwort. Although it is actually an orange butterfly with black spots it gets its name from the dark green hue to the undersides of its hindwings.  The sky had been almost cloudless when we set out but as we walked back the cloud formations were spectacular and by seven o’clock this evening the sky was totally covered and there were some light showers of rain.
