Remembering our friends in the UK
The heat wave has broken! It is once again possible to go outdoors in Portland, to drink and eat and be with our friends without suffering heat stroke. Sue and I have not seen each other for ten days because she was traveling with one of her sisters, so we were very happy to meet today and have a meal "out" (literally).
Neither of us had seen a Fentiman's since we were in Fishguard in 2015, on an epic UK visit during which we met about 35 Blippers and their friends and relations. Sue chose the very same drink we both had in Fishguard just before we met Ceridwen. We speak of you often: all of you we met on that trip, plus several people we wanted to meet but couldn't because of transportation and exhaustion. You wrote to us, planned with us, adjusted when our plans changed. Some of you joined us for tea, for walks, for meals. Some of you allowed us to stay in your homes. One of you allowed us to stay in your holiday home, although we still have never met you. All of you were excellent to us in every way. Thank you again.
Our blips from that trip begin here and here and proceed to June 14 in both journals. What memories those are! The Fentiman's Rose Lemonade brings it all back. We believe Fentiman's home offices are in Hexham, very near WalkingMarj, who is one of those we met and again, toast!
Sad postscript: I heard this evening that 63 people died in Oregon because of that horrible heat, 45 of them in the county where I live. The suffering of those who didn't die, but had heat stroke or heat exhaustion will never be known, not to mention plants and animals. So we lucky ones go on and indulge ourselves in sweet memories, but many were not so lucky.
