Bee orchid

Apparently the Bee Orchid is very rare - which is why it's blooming in a cage, to prevent it being picked.  This one is at Castle Espie,  we were there this morning for the bird watch walk.  Ross, the reserve Warden leads the walk and explained that the Bee Orchid evolved with just one pollinator, a specific Bee, but when that Bee became practically extinct in the UK the Orchid became self-pollinating. Clever Orchid!
We had a cool and grey morning,  but the sun appeared this afternoon and it's been a great afternoon and evening.
