The car's the star

To Bo'Ness with EdiSteve for a weekend at the rather excellent Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema. On the way, we called into the Bo'ness Motor Museum, which features a fantastic collection of James Bond cars and memorabilia. And a Harry Potter car and giant spider - it's a wonderful pace for all the family, complete with Miss Moneypenny's cafe and the 007 Bar.

Tonight we went to the Hippodrome - the oldest surviving cinema in Scotland, built in 1912. The architecture is stunning, and the staff and ambience wonderful. At the gala evening we enjoyed a drink and nibbles and chat before settling down to Gloria Swanson's 1925 romantic comedy Stage Struck - I never knew she had such comic timing. Enhancing the film was a live score from pianist Neil Brand

You may have seen a bit of this movie - it's the one Norma Desmond is watching in her private cinema in Sunset Boulevard, and yes, she was great.

There was also a short, showing comedy on the beach at Portobello, again with live music. It was a tremendous evening, and we look forward to the rest of the weekend.
