The Luthier
A trip up to Perth today so L could take one of her guitars to a luthier to see if he could do something to improve the action. D was excellent, talking through the process and explaining how guitars are constructed and how that impacts the way they are set up. He then did some checks of the guitar and watched as L played it for a bit before making some changes to the set up. L had also brought along another guitar that she finds much easier to play, as a sort of reference, and D was able to get the 'under-performing' guitar playing much more like that one after a couple of change-play cycles. All in all a much better service than taking the guitar into a shop and leaving it there for them to work on and L thought it was worth every penny. I then asked if he minded if I took a quick portrait of him and grabbed this of him in front of some of the tools of his trade before we headed back down the road, dropping in to visit P on her actual birthday on the way.
