Roobarb and Custard

Today's image is of a poster of the cartoon characters Roobarb and Custard which is currently hanging on the wall next to our stairs. My sister bought it for me and my brother as she says it reminds her of us. Not quite sure what that says about us!
Roobarb and Custard was an animated children's TV programme, each episode being about 5 minutes long, created by George Calveley and used to be shown just before the evening news. It was first broadcast on 21st October 1974, with 30 episodes being made in total.
The theme is the friendly rivalry between Roobarb, a green dog with an overactive imagination, and Custard, the mischievous laconic pink cat from next door. Roobarb is always involved in some kind of misadventure which he approaches with unbound enthusiasm. Custard is cynical and aims to sabotage Roobarb's fun. Who comes out on top varies from one episode to the next.
If you are of a certain vintage I'm sure you will also recall the inimitable theme tune!
