Project 365 day 178: Hillside Garden
Some friends up the lane let me loose in their garden this morning. It's on the hillside, higher than ours, so although we look out over the same valley and downs, it feels quite different. It's a somewhat wild garden, with curving paths cut through the unmown grass, and many lovely trees, shrubs and plants; there is a great variety of colour and texture, and the garden is full of the scent of honeysuckle and roses, including an immense Rambling Rector loaded with blooms. The light wasn't good - the morning fog had not fully lifted, and the day remained misty and drizzly, with warm, muggy air. However, it was a great pleasure to wander round a different garden, discovering new views, hidden corners and unexpected plants. I took a lot of flower photos, but I think my favourites are the ones which set the garden in the landscape.
