An Egg! A What?
An egg! A pheasant's egg laid on our lawn.
I could hardly believe it as the pheasants moved away. I thought it might be fungus, mushrooms appear very quickly so I bent down to have a closer look.
I have never handled a newly laid egg. It was soft and rubbery, a bit like picking up dry jelly, I would imagine.
It didn't last very long, it soon got eaten. No, not be me, by the birds.
The title refers to a campfire game I used to play with my Guides. "The farmer's hen has laid an egg!" "A what?" "An egg!"
