Thrashers
1:45 a.m. photo of three tractors directly across the road from our open bedroom window. For the drone of their diesel motors in the middle of the night, in a strange way, it’s all right. We expect it. It’s always reminiscent of Neil Young’s “Thrasher”:
“They were hiding behind hay bales,
they were planting in the full moon.
They had given all they had for something new.
But the light of day was on them,
they could see the thrashers coming,
and their water shone like diamonds in the dew.”
