WildWed: Pondskater with Lunch & Reed Bunting

Son#2 likes wildlife, especially birds, so we had a trip to Gosforth Nature Reserve this afternoon - the first time I've been since Covid reared its ugly head as it's been closed for a lot of the time.

There weren't any major sightings although we did see a few herons. I like the "telephoto macro" shot which I was able to get of a pondskater enjoying a tasty insect - I was fascinated with the way the water surface seems to develop "stretch marks" where its feet touch. Later after several false starts I was able to get a photo of a rather elusive reed bunting (see the extra).

They're best seen large.

Many thanks to Cailleach for keeping Wildwed going.
