Nobody is Exempt
Poor old John Rae, a Stromness surgeon and explorer, employed by the East India company and engaged in finding the North West Passage. He has been forced by hands unknown to confirm to present day Covid restrictions.
After the summer’s day yesterday , it was an inauspicious start to this morning with drizzle and a mist blanketing the view. The nice thing about Orkney weather is that however bleak it seems to start with, it changes quickly and by this afternoon, I was able to sit in the garden and read the paper in my shirt sleeves, as it were, with the weather bright and balmy if not exactly brilliantly sunny.
Not only are Orcadians a friendly people, but the cattle are usually very eager to come to the fence and regard one with interest.
My extra involved inky black cattle, with two interlopers, in a field above Stromness, who all came to stand in line and say hello as I passed. What they made of my one sided conversation with them I will never know.
