My Grandmother's Wool Winder

I remember quite clearly my grandmother winding wool on this wool winder. The skeins - long rope bundles of wool - were strung around the outer posts and onto the reel at the bottom. When the handle was turned the wool wound into lovely big balls of wool in figure 8 patterns which were then ready for knitting and crocheting wonderful things.

I used to knit and crochet myself a lot when my children were young - a lifetime or two ago it now seems. How time goes by!
