Blue
I read in the Grauniad this morning that it’s the fiftieth anniversary of Joni Mithchell’s Blue being released. I bought it a month later in a Manhattan record store along with Mud Slide Slim, one of my more inspired shopping trips!
So Blue had to be the theme of the day. Worked away under a blue sky at the allotment; walked under a blue sky to the tenpin where JacktheLad blew me away in the second game, sat under a blue sky outside a pub at Haymarket and quaffed a decent pint of IPA (nobody blew their horn), home to watch our Boys in Blue take on the tricky Croats.
Happy with the start of the match, more than a bit blue when we lost a goal, cheered up hugely when we scored, despaired after some Modric magic, perked up a bit by opening a Weissbier at half-time, nearly blew a gasket over the third goal but it was just quiet resignation when the final whistle blew. By the way, the officials were dressed in blue.
