Bookham Oak

I had to make two detours in the village today because of extensive roadworks. The residential roads have become busy, and as there is plenty of on street parking, progress was difficult. Errands finished, I was pleased to get free of the traffic and stopped at Bookham Common to find a photo. I had hoped to find wild flowers but the undergrowth was a uniform green. Bookham Common is famous for its oak trees, said to be used to build the fleet that defeated the Spanish Armada. This one has grown into attractive shapes.
It is a while since I walked on the Common and it was a real pleasure, although I didn’t go far.
