Happy Solstice - funny blip

Happy Solstice! It was certainly hot enough - however, the cicadas peaked well over a week ago so their numbers are declining dramatically and I didn't even hear them today.

It is also my anniversary. 33 years.

Twenty years ago I asked a co-worker to accompany me to a bike store. I was going to buy a mountain bike and I knew I didn't know what I was doing and thought it would be helpful to have someone who at least biked with me. We were talking on the way there and came out to each other. He asked how long Karen and I have been together. When I said 13 years he was stunned. "That's 36 in straight years!"

Continuing with funny stereotypes, we invited him over for Thanksgiving. He told a friend he'd had Thanksgiving with two lesbians and, without missing a beat, the friend asked how was the tofu.

(We actually had tofu. I mean, we had turkey and everything else too, but....)

Today I tried to make a pie. I messed up the directions. Samuel enjoyed it. You get a sense of why I'm so incredibly happy every time I do something right?

Fortunately Karen had bought extra supply and I was successful on the second round. I substituted the sugar for monk fruit sweetener and it turned out fine.

I don't think this counts as "wildflowers in weird places" - I think it counts as "relationship rings in weird places."
