Dryrange or Leaderfoot Viaduct
Thank you for the response to yesterday’s Heron photo.
Today we travelled to Melrose for a walk in the Eildon Hills and along the Tweed. Some stunning views from the tops after a steep climb, but a little hazy for photography.
The extra shows Melrose Abbey which we passed on the way back to the car.
The main was a pit stop on the way back to the cottage. The viaduct was finished in 1865 carrying a single track railway over the Tweed. However following a severe storm which washed out embankments and undermined bridges in 1948 it never reopened. Today there is no public access. A shame as it would make a fine walk/cycling track.
Another new area to us both (Richard had visited to watch the famous Melrose Sevens rugby tournament but had not taken in the surrounding scenery). Would definitely visit again.
