Pigeons

I have an issue with pigeons. They startle too easily. We have two in our garden and I have never laid a finger on them, chased them or done anything to threaten their existence. However, when I enter the garden they leap into the air with a mad clapping and whistling sound as they fly into each other or sometimes into a tree or window before settling on a fence. This almost gives me a heart attack and at that point I do say "bloody pigeons" but as they don't speak English that shouldn't bother them. On second thoughts maybe they speak pigeon English??!
Here in the church yard five of them flew up into the air and nearly brought me to an early grave.
