Radical urban art
This “installation” (for lack of a better word) was built by the side of Lake Merritt in Oakland. It superficially resembles the tents and lean-tos of the homeless park dwellers, which are always temporary, because the city clears them away. But this one has been left standing, perhaps because no one is actually living in it. Its assembled signs are pointedly ironic — a “residential leasing” poster, a Gucci label, etc. A small sign outside the range of this photo indicated that we could join a group called “Discord” if we wanted to learn more. I was impressed.
