Before the Rainbow
We put off going for a walk until it cooled down, but by the time we got motivated there was thunder in the distance. We decided to hurry it up and stroll around the campground before the rain came. It did not take long. We doubled back to the car and came upon this impressive cloud. It was the kind of cloud that people were pulling over to gawk at, and for good reason. After some photos we hopped back in the car and took off down the road for home...which was directly towards this formation. Sure enough, the rain started. Then it really got going, with very large raindrops making it difficult to see the road. Then the hail began and all hell broke loose. The hail was the size of small marbles, and the noise was incredible. Amy had to pull over because it was impossible to see anything. It seemed like the kind of hail that could strip the paint off your car. After a few minutes, which felt like longer, it slowed down and we could actually see the sun shining brightly through the hail. We drove off again as it changed back into rain, and by the time we got home there was a rainbow over the house. The drive from where this photo was taken to home is normally about five minutes at most, and we had only been gone about 45 minutes, but it felt as if we had gone on some sort of adventure.
It made for a memorable Juneteenth Day.
