Ayers House Visit

Ayers House is the jewel in the National Trust crown in South Australia - or rather it was.  It has been served an eviction notice by the Government who want to move the History Trust into the building.  To say that the fur is flying is an understatement.  The fight is on.

Quite apart from that, we had previously booked to attend an event which featured a costume display and talk.  I do hope that none of the NT members follow Blip because - gosh it was soooo boring.  A lady stood up and prattled on for an hour - but the costumes were in a completely different place; so the lecture had no reference, no visual appeal.

Anyway, in the end it didn't matter because we were so happy to visit Ayers House and look around the Museum.  If you are interested in this history here's a link.  A front image of the House has been blipped by the Rower.

I used to work for the National Trust very many years ago and the office was in Ayers House at the time.  I didn't have a good relationship with the boss, so it only lasted a year; but it was a good year on the whole, and I certainly learned a lot - especially about working with volunteers.

If the Trust has to move out - and I suspect it will - it will be a loss, but their headquarters are in another beautiful Victorian House in the suburbs.  The big question will be where are they going to store all their treasures.
