The original blipper

The bust of David Octavius Hill (1802-1870) sculpted by his wife, marking his grave in Dean Cemetery. 

Along with his partner Robert Adamson he was a pioneer in many aspects of photography and, as well as producing many portraits, using the calotype process, of well-known Scottish luminaries of the time, they also photographed many local and Fife landscapes and urban scenes, including images of the Scott Monument under construction.  They also photographed ordinary working people and the fishermen and fishwives of Newhaven figure prominently in their work.

A major exhibition of their work was held by the National Galleries of Scotland in 2017 and more information on them with many of their images can be found here:
