St. Francis

The new pope chose the name Francis. This is very meaningful to me because St. Francis is my favorite saint. It was a day of strange "coincidences." I just happened to pick up my St. Thomas of Aquinas and St. Francis of Assisi book and start reading it the day before a new pope is selected and that pope chooses the name "Francis." Then a colleague of mine just so happens to be showing his class a film on St. Francis. And no, I do not think it's coincidence.

I am thankful that we have a new pope. I am thankful that the new pope has selected St. Francis because I think the message that Francis preached was a good one. What he lived, I would like to live.
I will leave you with a few of my favorite quotes:

"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible."

"No one is to be called your enemy, all are your benefactors, and no one does you harm. You have no enemy except yourselves."

"I have been all things unholy. If God can work through me, he can work through anyone."

"Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love."

"It is not fitting, when one is in God's service, to have a gloomy face or a chilling look."
