The flags fly to remember the 17th June, 1953 when Russian troops crushed riots in East Berlin. 1954-1990 a public holiday, this was the Day of German Unity until the unification became true. From left to right, the European, German, and Hessian flags. The lid in the foreground is for access to the underground warehouses of the nearby malls.
