Grand Tour of England Day 11

Poor Jo had a GP appointment and as she suspected she has a skin cancer near her eye. Because of where it is she’ll be on a fast referral and should see a specialist in under 2 weeks. Pleased she’s being seen quickly but a nurse at the surgery told her previously it was nothing. Her doctor son told her it was and luckily she listened.

We had a quick hug when she arrived to take us for a short drive along the coast where we did 4 miles of the coastal path to look at tin and copper mines perched on the edge of the cliff. In 1836 186 children worked at one, sorting out the ore for processing. The mine shareholders made great profits from the mines but it was poorly paid and dangerous work for the miners. The wind was cool though the sun was warm.

The path was much wider than yesterday being on open heathland with pretty wild flowers.

We stopped at a cottage where we sat in the garden having a Cornish cream tea eaten the Cornish way - jam on the scone first then the clotted cream on top. Usually it is served on pretty china but with Covid it was paper plates and cardboard cups. Tasted delicious though we all feel a bit sick now as being piglets we had 2.

Grandson Thomas aged 8 is having to isolate as a classmate has Covid. Poor #2 daughter is home schooling and working from home yet again. #3 daughter says numbers are on the increase with the teenagers at her school. Hopefully the over 18s will take up the vaccine offered.
